Snake (La Monnaie)
Premiere at la Monnaie, December 20th 2025
SNAKE is a piece for youth chorus and dancers. It is inspired by “Eulogy for a Man Who Still Lives”: a book written by the dancer María Sara Villa about her father’s kidnapping in Colombia. It documents the dangerous journey that her family went on to try to find him.
The piece is also inspired by Caño Cristales (the “rainbow river”) in Colombia. It snakes through the jungle in the heart of what used to be dangerous guerrilla territory, and where trees struggle to grow. It is filled with the macarenia clavigera plant whose leaves create vivid rainbow colours.
