Solar, is a new commission by La Monnaie, Brussels, based on the myth of Icarus. The piece brings together four soloists, a youth chorus and children’s chorus to express vital hard-hitting themes: human blindness and environmental destruction. The revenge of the burning sun (played by the children’s chorus), and the sacrifice of Icarus’ own life is not enough to provoke change. People turn away from disaster and continue life as before.
